Terms & Conditions:

Eligibility for Membership:

General membership may be given to a Hindu, Buddhist, Christian or indigenous person of Bangladeshi origin, regardless of his or her current residency status, if such person is sane, at least 18 years of age and has never acted against the interest of the minorities of Bangladesh and been convicted by a U. S. court of law.
A new applicant seeking membership under this category shall be considered a member of the Unity Council only after she/he has filled out an application, paid his or her annual dues ($20.00 per year), signed the attached Membership Agreement Form and the application has been approved.

Duties & Privileges:

General members shall pay their annual dues by the 3rd week of January every year and attend the General Meetings of the organization. Members in good standing shall select/elect the Directors directors by forming a two member election commission selecting them unanimously from among themselves or from the community, once every three years.

Termination of Membership/Officership/Directorship:

Besides submission of a written notice of resignation as Memebr, Officer or Director of the organization to the Member Secretary or Chairman of the Board, personally or by mail; occurrence of any or more of the following shall constitute sufficient grounds for termination of a member, officer, or director:

  • i.Failure to comply with any of the provisions of the bylaws.

  • ii.Promoting any Bangladeshi political parties, or their overseas chapters, support groups or their leadersor officers in any manner, (e.g., by making appointments or presentations on their behalf, lobbying for them, joining their delegations or including them in a Unity Council delegation, without the Executive Committe or Board of directors' authorization.

  • iii.Using the organization as a tool for self advancement or recognition in any manner, e.g., by issuing certificates, reporting the activities, accomplishments and or plans of the organization ( BHBCUC, USA), Bangladesh Hindu, Bouddha Christan Oikya Parishad (BHBCOP) or any other Bangladesh Hindu, Buddhist & Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC) committees in any manner, e.g., via group e-mail or by in the print media, unless designated to do so.

  • iv.Representing the organization in a meeting with anyone anywhere, without obtaining authorization from the Executive Committee/Board of Directors.

  • v.Ridiculing, criticizing or publicly expressing concerns or grievances against any BHBCUC or BHBCOP Committees or harassing, threatening, defaming their officers or directors in any manner, e. g, by sending out e-mails or publishing derogatory articles in the print or electronic media, or by encouraging others to engage in such activities based on hearsay and or conjecture, before bringing the matter of concern up to the attention of the governing body of the relevant Board or Committee.

Procedure of Termination:

A written notice of intent to terminate shall be sent by first class mail to the person’s address as stated on the Membership Agreement and also by e-mail, if one is vailable, proposing the termination of Membership. Such a notice, containing the date, time and place of the hearing, shall be sent out by the General Secretary of the Executive Committee by certified mail at least fifteen days before the effective date of the proposed termination hearing. The hearing will be held by the Board of Directors in accordance with the quorum and voting rules set forth in the Bylaws applicable to a regular meeting of the Board. The Member whose membership is being terminated shall be granted due process, i. e., given the opportunity to defend his action. Following the hearing, the Board shall decide by a majority vote whether the member, Officer or Director should terminated or repremanded.
